Advanced primary care (APC) has started to gain popularity across the healthcare ecosystem. However, the concept is defined loosely with considerable variability across stakeholders. Advisory Board views APC as a primary care model with value-based payment at its core. This payment model enables the other defining features of APC — increased availability for patients; longer visit times; a team of providers offering whole-person care, including behavioral health; and a system for providing in-network, high-quality referrals to specialists. Largely, these features promote a positive patient experience.
