• Devenney Group Ltd., Architects: Devenney Group Ltd., Architects' seven-story addition to Medical City Children's Hospital ties into the existing North Tower and adds 61 beds, including a Congenital Heart Surgery unit. A four-story atrium filled with color, imagination, and a healing garden provides a new identity to this children's hospital and designates the new entrance while consolidating both inpatient and outpatient pediatric patient access. • ERDMAN: For the new Children's Surgical Center at UF Health Shands Hospital, ERDMAN incorporated a nautical-themed décor that is inviting and comforting to children faced with surgery. • HDR: The 340,000 SF expansion of Batson Children's Hospital at the University of Mississippi Medical Center will be transformative for pediatric health care in the state of Mississippi. HDR incorporated entirely new imaging and surgical platforms, a 32-bed PICU, an 88-bed NICU, and three floors of ambulatory outpatient clinics, which will provide families with a state-of-the-art environment of care. • IKM Architecture: In an effort to consolidate multiple outpatient services in Pittsburgh's southern neighborhoods, UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh retained IKM to design a new four-story, outpatient care facility that creates a singular image for the region's children's hospitals. Public spaces and waiting areas are organized along the angular front of the building with generous expanses of glass providing natural daylight and views with clinical spaces organized efficiently in the rectangular building mass behind. The project consolidates a full spectrum of pediatric outpatient services into one facility including clinical spaces for General Medicine, Express Care, Neurology, ENT, Speech Therapy, Behavioral Health, Physical and Occupational Therapy and Radiology, and room for future growth. • JE Dunn: JE Dunn completed a renovation to HCA Wesley Medical Center's pediatric areas, which included the addition of fifteen private rooms, as well as a renovated entrance, lobby, and elevators. The pediatric unit also received aesthetic upgrades and improvements to its HVAC system. The façade upgrades included new windows, aluminum fins, and lighting. • NBBJ: Designed by NBBJ, the Big Lots Behavioral Health Pavilion at Nationwide Children's Hospital will be the largest free-standing pediatric behavioral health facility in the U.S. when it opens in 2020. Working to eliminate the stigma associated with mental health care, the facility draws on the positive impacts of nature and community-focused spaces to help teens, children, and families heal and thrive. • Perkins+Will: Perkins+Will's transformative addition to the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford provides an immersive nature experience for children, families, and staff.
