Around the nation: Scripps and County of San Diego open vaccine 'super station'

Scripps Health and the County of San Diego on Friday opened the Scripps Del Mar Fairgrounds Vaccination Super Station at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, offering drive-thru and walk-thru Covid-19 vaccine services, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from California, Michigan, and Texas.

  • California: Scripps Health and the County of San Diego on Friday opened the Scripps Del Mar Fairgrounds Vaccination Super Station at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, offering drive-thru and walk-thru Covid-19 vaccine services from Feb. 12 to Feb. 14. Clinicians from Scripps will administer the vaccines at the site, which will extend its days and hours of operation once more vaccine doses become available (Bean, Becker's Hospital Review, 2/10).
  • Michigan: Covenant HealthCare has announced that Ed Bruff, president and CEO of the health system, is retiring, effective June 30. Bruff has served as president and CEO of Covenant since 2015 and previously served as the health system's EVP and COO. Beth Charlton, current EVP, COO, and CNO of Covenant, will succeed Bruff as president and CEO (Gooch, Becker's Hospital Review, 2/10).
  • Texas: The University of Houston College of Medicine on Feb. 9 received approval to join Texas Medical Center, marking the 63rd institution to join the medical district and neighborhood. "We are elated to join the Texas Medical Center as a member institution and look forward to engaging with colleagues at other institutions to advance clinical issues and best practices, and further joint research endeavors," Stephen Spann, founding dean of the University of Houston College of Medicine, said (Paavola, Becker's Hospital Review, 2/11).
