Around the nation: Montana governor tests positive for Covid-19

Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte (R) on Monday tested positive for Covid-19 and is currently experiencing "mild symptoms," according to a statement from his office, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from Arkansas, Kentucky, and Montana.

  • Arkansas: Arkansas on Tuesday became the first state to ban gender-affirming services or surgeries for transgender people under the age of 18. Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R) vetoed the bill on Monday, saying it would create "new standards of legislative interference with physicians and parents as they deal with some of the most complex and sensitive matters involving young people." However, the Arkansas House on Tuesday voted 71-24 and the Senate voted 25-8 to override Hutchinson's veto. The law will take effect 90 days after Arkansas' legislative session ends on April 30 (DeMillo, Associated Press, 4/6; Astor, New York Times, 4/6; Maher, Wall Street Journal, 4/6; Trotta, Reuters, 4/6).
  • Kentucky: Owensboro Health has named Mark Marsh as president and CEO, effective June 7. Marsh currently serves as SVP of Orlando Health's south-central region in Florida and as president of Health Central Hospital and Horizon West Hospital. Marsh previously served as CEO of Tennova Heathcare-Clarksville in Tennessee. Marsh will succeed Greg Strahan, who is retiring (Gooch, Becker's Hospital Review, 4/5).
  • Montana: Gov. Greg Gianforte (R) on Monday tested positive for Covid-19 and is currently experiencing "mild symptoms," according to a statement from his office. Gianforte, who received his first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine last week, has "notified all individuals with whom he may have had close contact" and will be isolating for 10 days, according to the statement. His wife, Susan Gianforte, is waiting for test results and has yet to experience any symptoms (Pitofsky, The Hill, 4/5).
