The National Park Service on Monday reinstated a mask mandate for all visitors and employees in buildings and crowded outdoor spaces, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from the District of Columbia, Kentucky, and Nevada.
- District of Columbia: The National Park Service (NPS) on Monday reinstated a mask mandate for all visitors and employees, regardless of vaccination status, in park buildings and crowded outdoor park areas, Axios reports. Although restrictions were originally lifted earlier this year, increased traffic to the parks, along with rising coronavirus transmission rates, led the agency to require masking again. "Visitors to national parks are coming from locations across the country, if not across the world," Shawn Benge, NPS' deputy director, said. "Because of this, and recognizing that the majority of the United States is currently in substantial or high transmission categories, we are implementing a service-wide mask requirement to ensure our staff and visitors' safety." - Kentucky: Kentucky on Thursday launched the "Vax and Visit" initiative to boost vaccination rates in the state. The initiative offers residents who have received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine the opportunity to win "safe-cations"—which include golf rounds, overnight accommodations, and campground stays—at Kentucky state parks. Ten winners will be selected on three dates: Sept. 9, Sept. 23, and Oct. 7. According to Mike Berry, the state's tourism, arts, and heritage cabinet secretary, the initiative will "not only boost travel revenue in local communities, but also ensure that Kentucky continues to be seen as a safe travel destination post pandemic." - Nevada: The Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday announced fans will be required to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination to attend home games at Allegiant Stadium, effective Sept. 13. The Raiders are the first NFL team to require proof of vaccination for attendance, according to USA Today. "Health and safety has always been our number one priority," Raiders owner Mark Davis said. "After consultation with (Nevada) Governor (Steve) Sisolak and other community leaders, this policy ensures that we will be able to operate at full capacity without masks for fully vaccinated fans for the entire season." Currently, the team has a mask mandate in place for preseason games at the stadium. (Reineking, USA Today, 8/17)
