Intermountain Healthcare on Monday announced plans to launch an outpatient imaging company later this year, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from Arizona, Massachusetts, and Utah.

• Arizona: Just before Arizona's school mask mandate ban was set to take effect, a judge ruled that the ban, along with several other policies contained within the state budget, was unconstitutional. As a result, public school leaders in the state can require students, staff, and visitors to wear masks on campus. According to Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Katherine Cooper, the bill was "unconstitutional and unenforceable," NPR reports. Cooper referred to the bill as "classic logrolling—a medley of special interests cobbled together to force a vote for all or none." (Giles, NPR, 9/27)

• Massachusetts: In a memo sent to employees, Mass General Brigham on Monday announced plans to give bonus payments of to $1,000 to most of its workforce. The health system plans to issue payments totaling $75 million to 80,000 staffers who worked in 2021. According to the memo, the bonuses should go out in November with pro-rated payments for part-time employees. "I know that this past year-and-a-half has been very challenging—clinically and operationally, emotionally and financially. That is why we have worked hard to support you," CEO Anne Klibanski said. • Utah: Intermountain Healthcare on Monday announced the launch of its new subsidiary, Tellica Imaging, an outpatient imaging entity that will offer MRIs and CT scans. "While hospital-based imaging services remain an important part of the care process, particularly in emergency situations and when complex imaging services are needed, many patients prefer to access CT scan and MRI imaging services in convenient settings closer to home," Intermountain board chair Nannette Berensen said in a release. According to the announcement, operations will start in Utah later this year, with three standalone imaging sites set to open before the end of the year—and at least five more will open at the beginning of 2022.
