Forbes on Tuesday released its list of "America's Best Employers for Women" in 2022, highlighting the top health care companies that "support women inside and outside their workforces."

About the list

For the rankings, Forbes worked with market research firm Statista to cull data from a survey of 50,000 U.S. employees—including 30,000 women and 20,000 men—working for businesses with at least 1,000 workers. All survey responses remained anonymous to encourage respondents to freely share their opinions.

Respondents were asked to rate their organizations on several criteria, including working conditions, diversity, and how likely they would be to recommend their employer.

Then, female survey respondents were asked to rate their employers on several additional criteria, including parental leave, discrimination, and pay equity. Female respondents were also asked to nominate organizations from other industries.

Forbes also factored female representation at the executive and board levels into each organization's final score.

The final list features 400 companies across 24 industries. The lists include health care employers across several categories, including "drugs and biotechnology," "health care and social," "health care equipment and services," and "insurance."

This year, Tampa General Hospital (TGH) claimed the number one spot on Forbes' "Best Employers for Women" list.

According to Forbes, TGH has "a strong track record of promoting women into senior management and providing benefits its female team members desired."

The health system offers flexible work options, scholarships for continued education, employee emergency fund for workers in crisis, up to $600 in back-to-school supplies grants per employee, and free classes on education and leader development.

Notably, half of TGH’s C-suite executives and 70% of its SVPs are women—nearly double the average in other health care systems, according to a recent report from McKinsey and Lean In.
