CMS announced that the basic monthly premium for standard Medicare Part D coverage will fall in 2023, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from Maryland, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.

• Maryland: CMS on Friday announced that the basic monthly premium for standard Medicare Part D coverage will decrease by 1.8% in 2023. In 2023, the average premium for drug coverage will be $31.50—a reduction from the current premium of $32.08. Each year, CMS analyzes plan bids to calculate a projected average basic monthly Part D premium to help beneficiaries understand premium trends ahead of Medicare's open enrollment period. The agency plans to release the 2023 premium and cost-sharing information for 2023 Medicare Advantage (MA) and Part D plans in September. In addition, CMS will release other information for MA organizations and drug plan sponsors, including the Part D national average monthly bid amount, the Part D regional low-income premium subsidy amounts, the de minimis amount, the MA employer group waiver plan regional payment rates, and the MA regional preferred provider organization benchmarks. • North Carolina: Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center appointed Beth Mosher as its new CNO. Mosher, who most recently served as the director of clinical and administrative operations at Northwestern Medicine Valley West Hospital, started her nursing career as a critical care nurse at Rush Copley Medical Center. Before Mosher became a nurse, she was a real estate agent. "I was drawn to the field of nursing because of my passion to serve others and my interest in science," Mosher said. "It also affords the privilege to partner with patients and their families, making an impact on their health and wellness in a meaningful and rewarding way," she added. "I'm so proud to be a member of Mint Hill Medical Center, and I am excited to contribute to the excellent work the team is doing to provide world-class care close to home for our community." • Pennsylvania: Jefferson Health on Monday appointed Joseph Cacchione as the CEO of Jefferson Health and Thomas Jefferson University, effective Sept. 6. Currently, Cacchione serves as the EVP of clinical and network services for Ascension Health. Previously, he spent eight years at the Cleveland Clinic before serving as the CEO of Ascension Michigan. Cacchione will succeed Jefferson's previous CEO, Stephen Klasko, who retired Dec. 31 after serving in the role for eight years. Since Jan. 1, emeritus board trustee H. Richard Haverstick has served as the health system's interim CEO. "Jefferson Health has the scope and scale to reach populations that are getting left behind," Cacchione said.
