The best workplaces for women, according to Fortune

Fortune released its list of the "100 Best Large Workplaces for Women" and the "25 Best Small and Medium Workplaces for Women," recognizing nine organizations in the health care and biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.

Methodology

For the list, researchers surveyed more than 400,000 employees at organizations certified by Great Place to Work.

The researchers ranked the organizations based on four measures, including:

1) How well women rated their organizations based on more than 50 Great Place to Work metrics that define a great place to work, including positive workplace interactions, great benefits and career development, and a strong support system.

2) How women's results on all survey questions compared with those of their male peers—particularly for factors where women have traditionally fallen behind men, including leadership access and professional recognition

3) Whether women were treated consistently across an organization, no matter their position or the nature of their role

4) How well women were represented in the organization overall, and in the organization's management and executive leadership teams.

Fortune published two lists, which included the "100 Best Large Workplaces for Women" and the "25 Best Small and Medium Workplaces for Women." To be considered, organizations had to employ at least 50 women.
