The 'World's Best Specialty Hospitals,' according to Newsweek

Newsweek has released its list of the "World's Best Specialty Hospitals" for 2024, ranking the top hospitals in the world among 12 specialties.

Methodology

Newsweek ranked the top hospitals worldwide in the following specialties:

  1. Cardiology
  2. Cardiac surgery
  3. Oncology
  4. Endocrinology
  5. Neurology
  6. Neurosurgery
  7. Orthopedics
  8. Gastroenterology
  9. Obstetrics & gynecology
  10. Pulmonology
  11. Pediatrics
  12. Urology

The rankings are based on three data sources:

  1. Worldwide online survey (primary weighted 70%, secondary weighted 30%, total weight 92.5%), conducted from June to July 2023 in which tens of thousands of experts were asked to recommend hospitals based on their expertise in one primary medical field and were allowed to choose an optional secondary area of expertise
  2. Accreditation data (weighted 5%), added wherever available, which reflect a variety of structural and/or quality requirements relevant for specialty rankings
  3. Voluntary PROMs Implementation Survey (weighted 2.5%), conducted by Newsweek and Statista, in order to account for the increasing importance of Patient report Outcome Measures (PROMs)

Any hospitals that specialize in multiple medical fields received specific scores for each medical field based on their respective nominations, meaning one hospital could be represented in more than one list provided it received enough recommendations in each field.
