Fortune: The 61 most innovative companies in healthcare

Last week, Fortune released its third annual list of "America's Most Innovative Companies," with 61 healthcare companies making the list — including 33 Advisory Board members.

Methodology

To create the list, Fortune partnered with Statista to evaluate companies on three dimensions of innovation:

  • Product innovation, which includes the introduction of new products or services and regular improvement of existing products and services
  • Process innovation, which refers to the development and use of new and innovative technologies/production processes, as well as innovative use of digitalization
  • Innovation culture, which measures the extent that a company fosters a spirit of entrepreneurship and creativity among its employees

Each dimension accounted for one-third of a company's overall score.

To determine each company's score, Statista conducted several surveys to collect both internal and external views on a company's innovation.

Over 40,000 employees completed surveys scoring their own companies on each of the three dimensions. In addition, over 2,500 experts participated in surveys about their external view on a company's innovation. A 10-member expert advisory board was also organized to evaluate the potential candidates and give their input on the topic of innovation.

A total of 300 companies with the best overall scores were included on the list, with healthcare and financials being the most represented industries.
