A Letter from Adele Scielzo, Division CEO, Advisory Board

Review these resources to help address racism and inequity in health care.

Over the last year, I’ve watched the health care industry grapple with the immense inequities in the health care system. Last year’s protests and the stark reality of inequitable Covid-19 outcomes put a spotlight on the role that providers, health plans, health technology firms, and life sciences companies have in combatting racism and improving equity. And it’s these events that pushed companies all over the world to reconsider their actions and policies and making bold pledges in the name of achieving equity. You may remember that at this time last year, I made commitments of my own.

At Advisory Board, we want to help you turn those commitments into action. To help you advance equity, I am opening our latest and best health equity and antiracism resources to all Advisory Board members. For those interested in learning why racism is a health care issue and the role that this industry has in taking antiracist action—listen to the latest episode of our podcast, Radio Advisory. There, you will also find an entire playlist dedicated to racism and health equity—including episodes that showcase how leaders like you are tackling health equity at home.

Ultimately, change must start from the top. That’s why we’ve published a brand-new resource on the CEO's role in advancing health equity. Our research team lays out a clearly defined equity ambition—one that supports the workforce, patient outcomes, and addresses the root causes of inequities in communities. As a CEO myself, I appreciate the clear action steps executives must take to lead an equitable organization. Because just like you, Advisory Board is on its own journey to advance heath equity and address structural racism.

No sector of the industry can accomplish equity alone. That is exactly why Advisory Board is committed to embedding equity into the way that we do research. On our website, you can find blog posts, toolkits, case studies, cheat sheets, and research reports that outline how you and your team can make real headway on the key pillars of health equity. If you don’t see what you need, you can always askadvisory to get quick answers and hear directly from our team of experts.

As always, let me know how I can be helpful,

Adele
